Air Force ASVAB Job Calculator
See every Air Force job (AFSC) you qualify for, plus the MAGE composite scores, the four gates that decide which career field you can pick. AFSC is the Air Force's code for a job.
The 4 MAGE Composite Formulas
Every Air Force AFSC publishes its minimum in one or more of these four composites. Raise the subtests feeding the composite you need, not just your AFQT. For the full breakdown, see the MAGE score guide and the Air Force jobs list.
M, Mechanical
= AR + 2×VE + MC + AS
A, Administrative
= VE + MK
G, General
= VE + AR
E, Electronics
= AR + MK + EI + GS
VE is an optimally weighted Word Knowledge + Paragraph Comprehension composite, not a plain WK + PC sum. MAGE scores are reported as percentiles (not standard scores like Army line scores). A G-55 is a 55th-percentile General score. Last verified: May 24, 2026.

The calculator above checks every AFSC we have data for, not just these. Treat the results as published minimums and an estimate of where you stand, not a guarantee of qualification: exact MAGE percentiles can't be reliably derived from a rounded score report, so always verify your actual qualifications with a recruiter. Use it to see which jobs are within reach and which would need a retake.
Air Force ASVAB FAQ
What Air Force jobs can I get with my ASVAB score?
Your Air Force job (called an AFSC) is gated by your MAGE composite scores, not your AFQT. Enter your subtest scores in the calculator above and it lists every AFSC you currently qualify for, which ones a retake would unlock, and the MAGE minimum each one needs. AFQT only decides whether you can enlist at all.
What's the minimum ASVAB score to join the Air Force?
The baseline AFQT floor is 36 with a high school diploma (per DAFMAN 36-2032), and Air Force career/FAQ pages quote 65 for GED/non-graduate paths. But most Air Force AFSCs require significantly higher MAGE scores, so hitting just the AFQT minimum typically leaves you with few job options.
What's the difference between AFQT and MAGE scores?
AFQT gates whether you can enlist; MAGE gates which AFSC you can select. AFQT is a percentile (1–99) derived from 2VE+AR+MK. MAGE composites (M, A, G, E) are also percentile-based but focus on job-relevant subtest combinations.
Can you pick your AFSC before enlisting?
The Air Force uses a 'dream sheet' process. You list your preferred AFSCs at MEPS, and assignments are made based on your MAGE scores, current needs, and available slots. Guaranteed AFSC contracts exist but are harder to secure than in the Army.
What's the highest AFSC ASVAB requirement?
Airborne Cryptologic Language Analyst (1A8X2) at G 72 and several cyber/intel AFSCs at G 64+ are among the highest. Nuclear/missile AFSCs (2M0X1, 2W2X1) require additional PRP screening beyond MAGE minimums.
Does the Air Force still use warrant officers?
No. The Air Force abolished warrant officers in 1959 and has not reinstated the rank. Enlisted and officer are the only two tracks.
